talk about throwback. pee wee herman is back. the 1980s comedian paul reubens is bringing pee wee back. tickets went on sale today for a november til who knows when it'll stop live show at the fonda theatre in los angeles. don't know if it's reubens attempt to make himself relevant again, or making pee wee relevant again...but needless to say, this live show should be quite the wonder.

take "this woman's work" an older track by maxwell and put it into visual choreography, and you really get something pretty magical. i can't say i have ever watched the show so you think you can dance, but this video shared to me by a friend is something else.

it's described rather simply: simple sinewave synthesizer triggered by an ordinary 16step sequencer. each triggered step causes a force on the underlaying wave-map, which makes it more cute.

here's another pretty spectacular album.

it comes out next week. it's definitely been called one of the most mysterious projects of 2009. a little odd for an album, i know. but check it. it's been this top secret collab between danger mouse (grey album, gnarls barkley) and mark linkous of sparklehourse (does a lot of production for radiohead). and somehow, they pulled in gangster filmmake david lynch in to put together a really interesting album. it's a very acquired taste per se, but definitely worth the listen.

it's pretty crazy. so the album is supposed to be released with a book of photos by david lynch. but there's a bunch of legal disputes between multiple labels and there's even discussion that the album may never be officially released. but they are going to release the book of photos with a blank recordable cd. the cd's will be labeled "for legal reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. use it as you will."

it's been eight long long years since maxwell has put out a track. in 2001, he was known for the track "this woman's work" and somewhere between then and 1999, he put himself on the map with the remarkable single "fortunate."

things have changed since then, with the afro gone, but the neo-soul is there. maxwell is finally back. with an album slated for july, entitled "BLACK" maxwell has just released his first single in - i'm going to say it again, because maxwell is a musical genius - eight years. and it's about time.

and honestly, after listening to this track, it was definitely worth the wait. just last week he released the single and video, which in itself has it's own artistic essence even without the track. check out the video for "pretty wings."

this is unreal. adrian champion, a hip hop head tells a story on his site of how he came across the white stripes later than most people, and was fully enamored by their music. being a fan of hip hop, he realized he needed to do something so other hip hop fanatics who would maybe not even know who the white stripes were...would be educated.

so he did it. with samples and remixes.

if you haven't listened to any of wale's mixtapes, then you are slacking. this dc native totally gets it, and his music is pure. his lyrics are eloquently on point. and he just is straight up dope across every board.

james jarvis - onwards

James Jarvis is a British illustrator that was originally inspired by classic cartoons like Popeye. Taking animations into his own hands, Jarvis has been known to create his own 3D casts of characters and shoot them into their own imaginary worlds, giving each character their own role, and sometimes personality.

Most recognized for his action figures for AmosToys, his seld-created figures are typically characterized by simplistic bodies, large rounded heads. SImply put, Jarvis is an animator and illustrator that should be appreciated for the ages.

Nike has teamed up with Jarvis to create a small short film (hopefully more to come) of a simple runner. Watching the short, we follow the runner through various landscapes, creative animation and good music. The short film is called "Onwards."

though simply designed, another taacit project comes completed for libby cataldi, author of a new memoir set to release at the end of this month. the memoir tracks the story of libby and her son, jeff through his drug and alcohol addiction.

the site was not difficult to design, but working with 2 people simple inspired by growth, an emotional journey had to be documented within the site. while the aspirations for creative design are always the goal, spreading the message of growth and energy was definitely the task in designing libby cataldi's site.

the book is entitled, stay close: a mother's story of her son's addiction.

think of it as a regular headset with one more arm. while that third arm would typically be a mouthpiece, it actually has a sensor that is placed on your forehead, and will read your brainwaves.

brooke inman is an amazing artist. her mode of art is absolutely stunning. while it may appear simple at first glance, there is so much more to her work, that sometimes, it leaves you glancing for extended periods of time.

a recent piece, entitled "everything color circle" is self-explanatory, but exhilarating to look at anyway. makes you wonder if she does her work in this space, or if this is the space that fuels her creativity.

a thought from brooke's own mind:

Negotiating the detachment of the variety of subjects and relations that surface from one, I record my personal thoughts. This examination of introspection, persistently reflecting the interaction between the worlds we inhabit, is constructed out of rudimentary techniques with honesty and compassion. i'm not the biggest fan of oatmeal. granted, i don't remember the last time i had a box of quaker oats. but my past weekend in san francisco opened my eyes to a new advertising campaign that definitely is intriguing. quaker oat's new tagline is "go human go." and once i saw it... my only thought was, wow they are doing something super creative to stay relevant. a brand that has been around since we can even remember, they've established themselves as the leader in dried foot products and breakfast.

but they still did this, and it totally refreshes this brand, and arguably makes it hip. totally feeling it. true, a lot of brands are out there with the whole optimistic marketing campaign (see: pepsi, coca cola, bofa), but they are all good and stuff we do need to see...especially with so much negativity around us these days, be it the consistently going down economy, people dying for no good reason around the world, and 13 year old boys being shocked that their 15 year old girlfriend had slept with more boys, and the kid isn't his.

"the quaker campaign is about leveraging human energy to fuel your day and also leveraging human energy to do more for others," said a quaker rep.

that's great.

the model S is a new look for tesla, and electronic vehicles. known for their hip two-seat roadster, tesla has catered a typically high-class audience, but with multiple types of vehicles now, it looks like tesla is pushing to compete in the mainstream car market with lexus and mercedes.

A few months ago, I hired Guillaume Doubet, a talented young director from France to come and work on our video team. He came up with the concept to shoot this video at double speed so when we played it back in real-time, it would have the slow motion effect that you see. So - imagine dancing and singing this song at 2x the speed all in one continuous take - no edits. Watch closely, the end of the video where I walk off screen really gives it away. PLEASE NOTE: This means that the video was shot in exactly 113 seconds (or 1/2 the time it will take you to watch it).

here's the first poster for an upcoming film where the wild things are, produced by spike jonze. the film is an adaptation of a children's book with the same name by maurice sendak. a really creative book, the film is expected to be filled with visual narratives that will be eye-opening for all audiences.

the film documents the imaginary adventures of a young boy named max, who is angry after being sent to his room without supper. he then creates a forest inhabited by many large imaginary monsters, who crown him their ruler. he then befriends a large monster called carol, who helps him understand the meaning of love.

film is slated for release, oct. 16, 2009.

you probably have never heard of gui boratto. and you most likely never will...or for a long time at least. boratto is a brazilian electronic music producer, who just released a second album in brazil called take my breath away. the album releases in the uk and asia in two weeks, but no american release is scheduled. the music is definitely a must-listen.

peep the new video for her track make love, which co-stars kanye west, as the love interest. it's a good song, with a very tastefully done video. video came out just a few days ago.
